Creative Writing Courses

“A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit.” Richard Bach

About The Course

2 Oaks Writing offers Creative Writing courses for those wanting inspiration, exploration and feedback. During the six session course, you will cover a range of genres and forms from flash fiction and poetry to novels and plays.

What does a typical session look like?

The usual format consists of an hour’s tutorial in which your tutor, Claire, will inspire you with creative genius from both well and little known authors from across the globe. Alongside the reading and discussion during this tutorial, there will be two or three opportunities to experiment with your own writing and to develop your narrative voice. The second half of the session will be reserved for the writing workshop. This is an opportunity to hear what your readers are thinking when they read your work, where you have excelled and where there’s room for a little something else. Claire will guide the discussion to ensure you get valuable feedback from your peers as well as offering support herself.

What will I have to do between sessions?

After your initial class you will be set a task to develop during the week for email submission. These tasks have an element of choice and a maximum word limit of 1,000 words. This work will be read by the other participants, as well as Claire, before the next session. You will have to read and comment on the writing from the other participants in your small group and come to the session ready to discuss it.

When and how long are the sessions?

Sessions are held on Wednesday mornings 10.30-12.30 GMT every fortnight for the duration of the term’s course and it is possible to join via Zoom.

Next course dates: 22nd September, 6th, 20th Oct, 3rd 17th Nov, 1st December.

The cost of the course is £120 for all 6 sessions for 2 hours each.
